Filming Our Animatic

In order to get any idea to what our video would look technically, we decided to shoot our animatic. We were able to do it only after we made our storyboard. Story board includes every single shot which has the description of how would we shoot it and what type of shot it is. The storyboard includes drawing pictures of how presumably our shot would look and giving presumed times of how long each shot would take. To do this we must plan beforehand and know what exactly we are doing.

When we were filming our timeline, all we had to do is to focus our camera and find good stationary position for our paper (the story board). In turns, each one of us would have a go on camera and film the paper. We decided to dedicate approximately 10 seconds per shot. This would then give us flexibility to change shots and have the capacity for improvisation as we are editing. The problem which we found whilst filming is that it is hard to keep the shot in frame if the paper is stationary. Therefore, we decided to put it on the floor and film it from above. This gave us sense of security in our shots and we did not have to adjust our camera every two seconds.

As we started editing. We placed the song first and then started matching our storyboard drawn shots with music. At first, all was well. However, what we ceased to realise is that in stead of matching shots against the lyrics we must match them against the kick drum of the song. My group members have ceased to realize that and we will have to fix later. The reason why we have to match it against the kick drum is because it is a music video and same as musical notes (crotchets, quavers), shots have their lengths as well which must be placed with the beat of the song. Therefore there is something what we must fix in our animatic.
